Just to get my blog up and running again after a few month hiatus, let's begin to say that I've become increasingly lazy about working out ever since I purchased my house. My old apartment complex changed it's access code so people who move out wouldn't keep using its facilities (grrr) and it's been INSANELY hot in the QC. I mean seriously, when I see people running down the street in 91 degree heat and 115% humidity, sweat pouring from their bodies, cars having to navigate their way through a sweat flood zone, it makes me wonder...why bother?
I haven't gained much weight, but I've become lazy. I've spent plenty of after work days watching HGTV, eating and sleeping. My exercise is my 1 1/2 weekly mowing session. So while being lazy I learned of talk of Jillian Michael's 30 Day Shred DVD (Jillian Michaels is the boot campish personal trainer on The Biggest Loser) I thought "Hmm, this might be something I should try." So after a few days of procrastination I went to Target, searched out the DVD's, got frustrated because
WHY weren't the exercise DVDs in the music/dvd section (they ended up being in the exercise equipment section...imagine that?) and found a bright shining beacon of a $12.99 price for the dvd. I mean seriously, I was expecting to plunk down at least $29.99 to tone my muscles so this was an ultimate 'score'. I also invested in two 3 lb weights (you can use 3 to 5 lbs. I totally know that I wimped out on the 3s but I have such sucky upper body strength that it is probably a good idea).
I admit, I purchased the video on Saturday and Jillian stared at me from the unopened package on my entertainment center until Wednesday. (But I have excuses, I felt under the weather and I was in a bad mood for most of the week).
So last night I dragged out my exercise mat, put the DVD in, grabbed a bottle of water, got my hand weights and was ready to start my 'intense' (yeah right) 30 day training.
Um...yeah.
Day 1. I basically flopped my way through 20 minutes of Jillian yelling that I couldn't stop (and my dog thinking my mat was a place where she can lay her toys while I'm trying to use it). I should have known what I was getting into when the first exercise is push ups. WTF? I kept stopping but felt like Jillian would come through the screen and bitch slap me if I stopped for more than 5 seconds so I wheezed and flopped my way through the whole thing. You know it's a hard workout when you can't WAIT for abs because at least you get to lay down for a bit.
I did think I was somewhat in shape until last night. I was too exhausted to even reach over and drink water, which I so desperately needed.
With all that said, I can't wait for day 2.
p.s. I'm freakin scared to see what Levels 2 and 3 are like. I'm going to have to invest in an oxygen tank.
